A number of members of the American Legion Cherry Lake Post No. 224 and Auxiliary Unit traveled to attend a District 3 meeting at American Legion Post 291 in Steinhatchee, Fla., where 3rd District Commander Stewart Scott was in attendance. Scott himself is a member of the local legion in Cherry Lake.
The meeting, held on Saturday, Aug. 15, was very well-attended considering the social distancing rules set in-place by the national organization and the state. All the attending posts were given the opportunity to speak on their programs and accomplishments. There were few people due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Those attending the district meeting received totes filled with some much-needed information and updates about continuing their local meetings and membership.
The American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security and continued devotion to their fellow service members and veterans. The American Legion depends on active members, volunteers and participants to serve the communities in which it thrives.
