If you or someone you know or love struggles with either alcohol or drug addiction, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) wants you to know that help is available. The North Florida AA District 16, which serves AA groups in Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee and Union Counties, offers several meetings throughout the area.
One Madison County meeting takes place at the Lee Public Library every Friday, at 12 p.m. The library is located at 190 SE County Road 255, in Lee. In Madison, meetings take place each Tuesday, at 12 p.m., at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, located at 402 Meeting Ave. In Greenville, meetings are held on Mondays, at noon, at Disc Village, located at 1476 SW Main St., in Greenville.
In Live Oak, meetings can be found at the Voting Precinct Building, next to the Health Department, located at 911 Nobles Ferry Rd., in Live Oak. Meeting times are Tuesday at 7 p.m., for a closed discussion, Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for open discussions. On Thursdays at 7 p.m., there is an open-book study. On Friday’s at 7 p.m., another open discussion meeting is held. On Saturdays, there is an open-discussion meeting. On Sunday mornings, they have a closed men’s discussion meeting at 8 a.m. Beginners meetings are held at Dowling Park on Mondays, at 7 p.m. The Dowling Park Beginners AA meetings are held at The Lighthouse, located at 23594 County Road 250, in Live Oak.
In Mayo, morning meetings are held at 3373 E. US Hwy 27, that’s at the corner of Hwy 27 and CT 354, in Mayo. Morning meetings are held on Monday and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. A book study meeting is held on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m.
AA is a fellowship of men and women who come together to share experiences, strength and hope with each other in order to help each other recover from alcoholism. There are no dues or fees of any kind to join AA. The sole requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. The AA’s primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
