1965 At Central Florida Baton Camp – Five baton twirlers from the Madison area recently spent a week at Howey Academy, Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., taking instructions in baton twirling, strutting, charm, and everything else it takes to please crowds during football halftimes. They were among some 250 majorettes from throughout the country attending the Central Florida Baton Camp, under the direction of Mr and Mrs Roy Carter of Eustis Fla.
An accident occurred at 2 a.m. last Friday morning, three miles east of Madison on U.S. Hwy. 90, involving a 1952 Ford sedan driven by Bobby Cooke, of Lee, and a 1956 GMC pickup truck driven by Sam Washington, of Thomasville. Judy, the two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Cothron, who lives on Rocky Ford Road, about ten miles southwest of Valdosta, was rescued late last Saturday afternoon after having fallen down a 25-foot well into twelve feet of cold water.
