The 32nd Annual Founder's Day Celebration at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church is just around the corner. Festivities will all begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude by mid-afternoon.
Our state, county and community were all hit extremely hard by Hurricane Idalia. The Hickory Grove United Methodist Church had some damage after the storm. They all worked together to get through this catastrophe by checking on neighbors and helping those in need as much as possible. The Hickory Grove Church sustained very little damage, however they did lose their outside storage building. Many trees in the “Prayer Garden” and playground were damaged, as well. By working together, the damages obtained by Idalia were mostly cleaned up. The most important thing was no loss of life in the Hickory Grove Community.
However, they did have to take a two-week pause in preparation for the 32nd annual Founder’s Day. The members organizing Founder’s Day expect a huge crowd on Oct. 21. The signs are up announcing the upcoming Founder’s Day date. Thanks to Willie Agner, who has the green peanuts in the freezer, ready to be boiled for Founder’s Day.
As usual, there will be many choices to help any and all hunger pains. When you arrive at Founder’s Day, there is breakfast offered at Cousin Mary Lou’s Country Kitchen. At Cousin Mary Lou’s Country Kitchen, their biscuits will be cooked on wood burning stoves. There’s sausage or ham offered inside, with cane syrup made by the McLeod family. There will be Steven and Jennifer Williams Pork Bar-B-Que sandwiches offered, also with grilled sausage dogs with cooked onions and peppers offered. The Luce Family will be cooking huge pots of Collard Greens and Hoe Cakes again this year. Right next to the Luce Family will be Bobby Joe’s Venison Chili. Michael and his mom, Mary, are more than happy to serve as many bowls as needed. Chicken Pileau is also on the menu, and has been for the past 32 years. There are many other food options like the boiled peanut booth, homemade ice cream, etc. for you to enjoy. Beth and Theron Moore and many others will make sure that you get enough to curb any and all hunger pains!
The most important event at Founder’s Day, is God’s Message, which will be delivered at noon by Hickory Grove United Methodist Church’s pastor, Steve McHargue. You will not want to miss this message straight from the Bible.
Plan the day to be with folks from all over on Saturday, Oct 21. Everyone is invited to come and spend the day at church! There is no better place to be! Get closer to God!
