Madison County local, Zack Sprenkle will be heading to Atlanta for the U.S.A. Powerlifting (USAPL) Raw Nationals from Friday, Oct. 14 - Sunday, Oct. 16.
Sprenkle, who has been powerlifting since the first of this year will be competing in the 264 (120 kg) pound weight classification and in the 18-19 year old age classification. He will also compete in open competition.
In May of this year, Sprenkle entered his first competition in Smyrna, Ga., and won first place in both his weight class and his age class. He also won first place for the highest overall total lifted. Sprenkle lifted a total of 650 pounds in the 120 kg weight class, breaking a Georgia state deadlift record.
Sprenkle began weightlifting while a student at Madison County High School (MCHS) under the tutelage of Coach Jim Ertzberger. Sprenkle now trains with Josh Chamberlin with the Capital City Barbells out of Tallahassee. Sprenkle is a student at North Florida Community College (NFCC) and plans to continue his education at the University of West Florida to pursue a degree in exercise science. He is the son of Hal and Ramona Sprenkle, of Pinetta.
