Every year the Salvation Army provides gifts to children that might not otherwise have gifts under a tree or goodies in stockings on Christmas morning, by way of a program named Angel Tree. This heart-warming program partners the Salvation Army with local churches, organizations and individuals that help provide gifts for families who may not be able to provide the luxury of Christmas gifts to their children.
The Salvation Army seeks out these families in need by visiting the organization Kids Inc., Head Start programs and schools, as well as receiving recommendations from individuals in the community. This makes sense to Sgt. George Blevins who runs the North Central Florida Outpost for Madison County.
Angel Tree is a community project; we help each other to make this happen.” Blevins says, “It’s simple. We provide the information about the child or children to you, you purchase the wish gift, and either deliver the gift yourself or we will distribute the gift from a central location.”
Blevins wants to send a big “Thank You!” to all who already participate in this heart-warming program and thanks the Madison County Clerks office, which has been hosting one of the Angel Trees for three years. The Salvation Army is looking for groups to partner in Angel Tree this year! If your Church or Organization would like to be a child’s angel, please call (850) 584-5678.
