Troy Mendheim, Jr., 29, and December Webb, 26, both of Lee, were traveling south on NE Clover Ave. on Tuesday, June 28 when, for reasons unknown, the 2007 Nissan Sentra that Mendheim was driving traveled onto the western shoulder of the dirt road.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), when the vehicle continued to travel onto the shoulder, it struck a fence, forcing it to travel in a southwesterly direction before rotating counterclockwise.
The spinning of the Nissan Sentra caused it to overturn several rotations, causing immense damage to the vehicle and injuries to the driver and passenger.
The vehicle came to a final rest, facing southeast on its left side on the western shoulder of the road.
Upon arrival at the scene, EMS first responders found blood on the vehicle, but were not able to locate the occupants.
Neither Mendheim nor Webb were present at the scene when Madison County Sheriff's Deputies arrived, but there was an obvious trail of blood leading into a large cornfield.
Webb was soon located after she exited the field and requested to be seen by the on-scene Madison County EMTs.
The driver, Mendheim, was identified, but was still nowhere to be seen, so Madison County Deputies and K-9 Officers initiated a search, in an attempt to locate Mendheim.
After a three-hour search through the surrounding area and cornfield, K9’s Miso and Onyx and their handlers, Sgt. Jarrod Lauth and Cpl. Chris O’Brian, located Mendheim as he was attempting to elude by traveling through the field.
According to eyewitness reports, upon locating Mendheim, it was discovered by law enforcement that he had outstanding warrants from another Florida county.
Mendheim was transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital, and then later to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) for the injuries he sustained during the wreck.
As of press deadline, Mendheim remained at TMH under constant law enforcement supervision. After his release, he will be formally booked. Mendheim faces pending charges of leaving the scene of an accident, driving with license suspended and resisting arrest without violence. He is to be served a VOP warrant.
