The Perry-Taylor County Chamber of Commerce announced today that at the 12th Annual Florida State Bluegrass Festival & Chili Cook-off Event at Forest Capital State Park in Perry the WORLD’S LARGEST MOON PIE WILL BE DELIVERED FRIDAY NIGHT for event attendees to feast on. Yes, all the way from Chattanooga, Tenn., the World’s Largest Moon Pie will be shipped in by Moon Pie employees. In addition, a truck load of Moon Pies will be hitching a ride to be given out free to the crowd on Saturday by our Moon Pie Princesses and there will be a Moon Pie Eating Contest! The event will start Thursday, April 3rd and will run through Saturday, April 5th. Headlining the event, Grammy Nominated and IBMA Vocal Band of the Year, Blue Highway and Grammy nominated band Mountain Heart. Also joining us are The Roys, Little Roy & Lizzy, Delta Reign, High Cotton, Florida State Bluegrass Band and much more! What started out as a one day event with a few hundred attendees is now a nationally recognized three-day event with thousands in attendance from all over the United States!
There will be talented entertainers filling the park with music all three days, a Chili Cook-off event, where competitors will be competing for over $1,000 in cash prizes, food vendors, arts and crafts items, World’s Largest Moon Pie, Moon Pie Eating Contest, and FREE Moon Pies! Best of all, the entry fee is only $20 for a weekend (three-day) pass in advance and $25 at the gate (special priced tickets for local residents available)! In addition to all that, ticket holders can attend any one of many free music workshops held throughout the park in the areas of mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro and bass.
The Chili Cook-off event is very popular. Contestants can enter to win cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. For those who do not wish to enter, you can have the opportunity to purchase a collectible cup for only $5 and eat all the chili you wish! But wait…there’s more. Kicking off the event on Saturday morning is the All You Can Eat Bluegrass Pancake Breakfast from 7-9 a.m.
Show times start on Thursday at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday things will get started at 1 p.m. and will end at 9 p.m. Saturday the entertainment will begin at 12 noon and continue through the day until 10 p.m. The event will take place at Forest Capital State Park in Perry on Highway 19 South.
So, come out to the Music Capital of the South and get your feet wet to the sound of Bluegrass & Country music! Expect plenty of parking lot picking and fun-filled singing to the sounds of bluegrass.
