The Winn-Dixie in Madison became the scene of an armed robbery Sunday, Jan. 17, around 10 p.m.
According to authorities, The Madison 911 Center was alerted to an armed robbery that was taking place in Winn-Dixie.
Arriving on scene, the Madison County Sheriff’s deputy spotted two suspects and went to approach them. However that quickly turned into a chase across the city as the suspects fled in their vehicle, heading north on Hwy. 53.
During the chase, shots were reported to dispatch as having been fired at the pursuing deputies by the suspects.
The pursuit came to an end when the MCSO deputy returned fire and the suspects’ vehicle ran off the road and into a power line pole on the west side of Hwy. 53 north near Little Cat Road.
The names of the suspects have not yet been released but it has been confirmed that there was a large, undisclosed amount of cash stolen during the armed robbery.
The suspects are facing several charges for actions committed during the theft-at-gunpoint and the flight from deputies.
