On Thursday, April 21, the Aucilla Christian Academy Warriors baseball team won the title of Class 2A District 1 Champions after defeating Robert F. Munroe Day School with a final score of 2-0. The leading hitters during the game were Donnie Kinsey, who was two for three; Daulton Browning, who was one for two and Brady Browning, who was one for four.
DJ Wilkinson pitched a complete game, a two hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.
"This was a very huge accomplishment for our team. We set several goals at the beginning of the season and this was the most important one. We all agreed that anything less than a District Championship would be a 'let down' for this season,” said Head Coach Thornton Davis. “I am very proud of these young men for accomplishing this feat.”
After this win, the Warriors hosted their first semi-final of the Class 2A playoffs against Harvest Community Christian on Thursday, April 28. The Warriors won with a score of 8-0.
Browning was two for two with two walks; Kinsey was two for three and Wilkinson was two for three. Jake Edwards, Austin Harrell, Nick Matthews and Joe Hannon each added a hit.
Wilkinson and Matthews combined on the mount for a one hit, 13 strikeout performance.
"I was glad to see the guys come out and take care of business. The focus and intensity was better than last week against Munroe,” said Davis. “It will have to be even better against our next opponent.”
If the Warriors are successful against their next opponent, Christ's Church Academy, of Jacksonville, they will move on to the Final 4. “[Christ's Church Academy] is a familiar foe,” said Davis. “We have played them in the last two seasons and managed to win both games, however, they were extremely close games and we were fortunate to get those victories.”
