Vernice Myrl O'Quinn, age 86, of Monticello passed away Monday Aug. 10, 2020, in Tallahassee, Fla. Vernice was born April 7, 1934, in River Junction, Fla. to Amos Lee Henderson and Mary Rebecca McReynolds.
Vernice had a long career working for Jefferson County Schools and retired after 39 years of service. She always took care of everyone, especially her family, and did all that she could for her church, through vacation bible school and helping with services. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and taking mini vacations to the mountains. Many weekends were spent with family and friends playing card games.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Catherine Miller (Ary Jackson-deceased); sons, Alvin Ray O'Quinn (Julie) of Monticello and Jeremiah Lamar O'Quinn of Monticello; brother, Horace Henderson (Shirley); sister, Joyce Shepard (Bobby); grandchildren, Michelle Barton-Roland (Jessie), John T Barton III (Dori), Ryan O Miller (Nici), Shawn R O'Quinn (Lisa), Jacqueline O Weber (Anthony), Justin O'Quinn, Jillian Jordan and Caitlyn Holland; her great grandchildren, Trevor Barton (Peyton), Haleigh Barton, Madison Miller, Shelbe, Emaree, Wailon McMallum, Katie Lambert (Jake), Leah and Trace O'Quinn, Maddie Jordan, Preslie Grace, and Harper Weber; and her great-great grandchild,
Finley Lambert.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Lamar O'Quinn; brother, Amos Lee Henderson; and her sisters, Pauline Hutchinson and Ruby Cochran.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14th, 2020, at the Roseland Cemetery in Monticello. Flowers are welcome, or donations can be made in her name to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
For anyone who would like, there will be procession at the Beggs Funeral Home – Monticello Chapel, located at 485 E Dogwood St., in Monticello, that will proceed to the cemetery. Please arrive five minutes before the funeral, and we ask that you please stay in your vehicles.
