Members of the Value Adjustment Board (VAB), the Clerk to the VAB, Chairman Ronnie Moore and VAB Attorney Cary A. Hardee II met for the first meeting of the VAB for the 2015 tax year on Wednesday, September 30 at 8 a.m. in the Courthouse Annex. To begin the meeting, Ronnie Moore introduced the members of the VAB. Members of the VAB included Rick Davis, District 5 Commissioner of the Madison County Board of County Commissioners; Lucile Day, citizen appointed by the County Commission; Kenny Hall, District 2 member of the Madison County School Board and Billy Washington, citizen appointed by the School Board. Phyllis Ford served as the Clerk of Court for the VAB.
The Rules and Procedures as prepared by the Florida Department of Revenue were adopted and approved. The board then discussed Government-in-the-Sunshine and Florida's Property Tax System. The VAB was informed by the VAB Attorney that they would be making decisions on property tax matters. Next, the board discussed the Resolution establishing Petition Fee Amount, which states that anyone filing a petition would have to pay a filing fee of $15 per petition to the Clerk of the VAB. The Resolution was approved. To conclude the meeting, the board discussed the proposed date for the VAB Hearings. On Thursday, November 12 at 9 a.m., the VAB will be holding hearings for petitions filed. The date for the hearings was approved. Recess for the VAB will be held until November 12.
