When the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles inspected the Madison County Tax Collector’s Office to consider a proposal for having a drivers license service here, the DMV insisted on several renovations for security reasons. Tax Collector Lisa Tuten got an estimate of $50,000 – $60,000 and presented the proposal to the County Commission at their May 14 meeting. Since residents must now drive to neighboring counties to get or renew a license, or wait for the Florida Licensing On Wheels (F.L.O.W.) mobile unit to come to the Winn Dixie parking lot once or twice a month, the county commission approved the cost of the renovations.
However, the original story in the paper stated that the state’s DMV would provide the computers, but while it will provide some of the necessary computers, it will not provide all of them; the county will need to provide the rest.
With the county’s approval, Tuten says the Tax Collector’s Office is now waiting to hear back from the DMV, before it can go ahead with the project.
Meanwhile, there is still the F.L.O.W. Mobile, which is scheduled to be here three times during the months of June and July, in the Winn Dixie parking lot.
The first date is Monday, June 23, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The second is Monday, July 7, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The third is Monday, July 21, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The F.L.O.W. Mobile will be offering the same services as a regular DMV office, including, issuing: drivers licenses and identification cards, renewing vehicle registrations, and issuing and renewing disabled parking placards.
