Just before 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, two Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered a fire in the apartment building next to the Madison County Jail, where their vehicles were parked. The deputies reported the fire to dispatch and then used their patrol vehicle's fire extinguishers and a water hose to quell the flames until Madison Fire Rescue personnel arrived on-scene. Firefighters put the fire out, preventing it from moving to additional apartments. Three persons were displaced because of the fire and the Red Cross was called in to provided assistance. Officers from the Madison Police Department and Madison County EMS also responded.

Fire units in Madison County were called out for a structure fire on Rocky Ford Road a little before 3 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 7. This was the second structure fire within two hours. Initial reports indicated that there might be a person in the dwelling and EMS personnel and firefighters made a forced entry to clear the building. No one was found in the mobile home and units from Cherry Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Madison Fire Rescue and Pinetta Volunteer Fire Department quickly controlled the fire. Madison County EMS stood by in the event of injuries and Madison County Sheriff's Office deputies controlled traffic. Tri-County Electric disconnected electrical service to the home.
