On Wednesday, May 25, around 1:27 p.m., first responders from the Madison Fire Rescue (MFR) received a call from the Madison 911 Communications Center in regards to a vehicle fire at Love’s Truck Stop. Firefighters were on scene by 2:09 p.m. The cause of the fire is yet unknown, though it is reportedly suspected to have been caused by possible mechanical failure in the engine compartment, which is where the fire started. The estimated cost in damages is $8,000. MFR was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, who used fire extinguishers to knock down the fire and pushed the vehicle away from the nearby fuel pumps by using one of the MCSO's own vehicles. Also assisting MFR was the Florida Highway Patrol.
