On Wednesday, Feb. 5, three Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys put ink to paper to make their commitments to take their football talents and skills to the next level. Rodderick Johnson, Jr., Jabarrek Hopkins and Octavius Davis all signed letters of intent to play college football.
Johnson signed to play for Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla. While playing in the defensive backfield for the Cowboys during his senior year, Johnson was good for two interceptions and 25 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss. Johnson also accounted for 83 yards of offense while playing running back and receiver. Johnson plans to study criminal justice while at Warner University.
Jabarrek Hopkins signed his letter to play for Independence College in Kansas. During his senior season, Hopkins was an instrumental member of the Cowboys' offensive line that paved the way for the Cowboys' rushing attack. Hopkins, a 6' 3", 275 pound offensive tackle was responsible for a total of 42 pancake blocks. Hopkins says he plans to major in communications in college.
Davis will join his fellow teammate Johnson at Warner University. During his senior year, Davis had 47 tackles with one tackle-for-loss. Davis picked off four interceptions and had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Davis also had 39 kick-off return yards. Davis plans to major in criminal justice.
Although Wednesday, Feb. 5, was the official National Signing Day, there could still be more Cowboys who will sign letters of intent. Two Cowboys, Chalon Howard and Zane Herring, signed their letters of intent during the early singing period.
