Two of the ladies at the Senior Citizens Center in Madison delivered lap quilts to residents at Lake Park of Madison this month. The quilts were completely handmade and donated mostly to those in wheelchairs because the quilts give extra warmth to laps and legs and can also serve as a cover for clothing during snack times or activities.
A total of 38 lap quilts were made by Lonnie Mae Robinson and Ella Mae Brown and handed out to lucky residents by the two caring ladies, along with Certified Nursing and Activities Assistant Melinda Simmons and Cheryl Scovel, the Senior Center’s OAA (Older American Act Coordinator). Robinson said she started on the quilts about six months ago but didn’t have to finish the quilts by herself as Brown volunteered her time to help finish the quilts and says, “I got a real joy doing this.”
