Tax exemptions deadline is Monday

Property Appraiser Leigh B. Barfield and her staff would like to remind you of exemptions that you may qualify for and their upcoming deadline Sunday, March 1. However, since March 1 falls on a Sunday the Property Appraiser office will be accepting the exemptions on Monday, March 2. Seniors 65 and older: If your total combined household income is less than $28,448 you are entitled to an additional $25,000 exemption. This exemption applies to the county millage rate of your tax bill only. To apply you will need a copy of your driver’s license and proof of income. You must be 65 as of January 1, 2015. If you had an additional $25,000 exemption last year, you should have already received a letter in the mail stating that you wish to apply or deny this exemption this year. You have to verify the total household income, sign the bottom portion of the letter and return ot to the office no later than Monday, March 2, 2015. Other exemptions you may be eligible for are Homestead, Widow’s, Widower’s Disability, Blind and Disabled Veteran.
