Both drivers involved in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred on State Road 53 on Wednesday, August 19 at 5:38 p.m., suffered injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Roy W. Floyd, 70, of Cherry Lake, Fl. was traveling northbound on State Road 53 just north of NW Diving Bird Loop in his 2000 Cadillac Deville. John D. Williams, 36, of Mayo, Fl. was traveling southbound on State Road 53 in his 1999 Peterbilt Semi. Floyd failed to negotiate the curve to the right and drifted left outside of the northbound travel lane into the southbound travel lane. Williams attempted to swerve onto the west shoulder to avoid collision, but collided with Floyd in the roadway. Floyd came to final rest facing northeast on the east shoulder of State Road 53. Williams continued onto the west shoulder and collided with a tree. Williams came to final rest facing south on the west shoulder of State Road 53. Floyd received serious injuries and was life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Williams received minor injuries and was transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital. Floyd was charged with failure to maintain a single lane.

On Wednesday, August 19 at 5:38 p.m. a 2000 Cadillac Deville, driven by Roy Floyd, of Cherry Lake, and a 1999 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by John Williams, of Mayo, collided and wrecked. The semi-truck came to a final rest on the west shoulder of the roadway and collided with the tree line. Madison Fire Department personnel are pictured as they begin to help free Williams from the cab of his semi-truck.

The wreck occurred on Hwy. 53 North at 5:38 p.mm on Wednesday, August 19. Floyd was life-flighted to TMH where he remains in serious condition.
