Bryon Harris, 55, of Live Oak, Fl., was traveling westbound on U.S. 90, behind a Madison County School District bus that was being driven by school bus driver Calvin Turner, 59, of Madison.
Turner had activated the bus' flashing yellow lights before he stopped in the west travel lane to pick up children passengers. Harris, however, failed to stop or slow down in enough time to keep from crashing into the back of the bus.
The left front of Harris' 2003 Chevy Silverado collided into the right rear side of the 2000 year model school bus before traveling across the paved apron on the north side of the road and onto the grass shoulder, where it came to its final rest.
A witness at the scene confirmed the report, saying that they had observed the bus come to a stop, and that the sound of tires skidding prompted them to look up and witnessed Harris' vehicle colliding into the school bus.
The bus was transporting five children, but all were uninjured during the wreck and did not need any transportation to a medical facility. Both drivers were also unharmed.
Harris is being charged with careless driving as a result of the wreck.
