Every October, the Madison Rotary Club puts their motto, “Service above Self” in practice as they serve close to 300 prime rib dinners to Madison County supporters as one of their major fundraisers. This year's event on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Villa Maria Social Hall of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, raised approximately $6,000 that will be used for various service projects undertaken throughout the year by the local service club. These projects help others locally, regionally and internationally.
Local projects over the years have included: the Madison County Senior Citizens Center; Kids, Inc.; the United Way, the Madison Youth Ranch, the Madison County Foundation for Excellence in Education and many more. Regional projects have included the Rotary Camp for Children with Disabilities, the Southern Scholarship Foundation and ramp building for Ability 1st. On an international scale, Rotary International has supported polio eradication efforts, maternal and child health initiatives and drinking water sanitation efforts.
The Madison Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at 12 p.m., at the Villa Maria Social Hall of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, located on Orange Ave., across from Beggs Funeral Home, in Madison.
