Paul Wayne Adkins, 59, of Bradenton, Fl., was traveling in the southbound lane of CR 255 on Monday, June 20 around 11:01 p.m., when the 1999 Ford Explorer that Adkins was driving traveled off the western shoulder of the roadway and continued to travel on the shoulder while heading south. According to eyewitnesses, Adkins was not paying attention to the roadway when the front of his Ford Explorer struck two mailboxes.
Reacting to his collision with the mailboxes and the direction his vehicle was traveling, Adkins overcorrected to the left, causing his Ford Explorer to travel back into his original lane and then over into the northbound lane before coming over to the eastern shoulder of CR 255.
Reacting again, Adkins rapidly steered his vehicle to the right, causing it to overturn in one complete rotation before coming to a final rest upright on the eastern shoulder of the road, facing southwest.
Florida Highway Patrol attended to the scene, with the assistance of the Madison Fire Rescue, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County EMS.
During the rollover, Adkins suffered minor injuries, but was not transported to any local hospital for further treatment.
Adkins is being charged with failure to maintain his proper lane of travel.
