The much-anticipated Relay For Life of Madison is happening on Friday, April 29 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Madison County High School Boothill Stadium.
At the event, there will be much to enjoy! The 16 teams apart of Relay For Life of Madison will be featuring booths that will have different decorations and goodies for sale. The theme for this year's Relay For Life is based off of Dr. Seuss and titled “I do not like cancer here or there, I do not like cancer anywhere!” Throughout the night, teams will read from their chosen Dr. Seuss book.
Relay For Life will begin with an opening ceremony and national anthem at 6 p.m.; the survivor's victory lap, where cancer survivors take the first lap around the designated track, will begin at 6:10 p.m. and the caregivers lap, where anyone who has ever cared for someone with cancer walks a special lap in their honor, will begin at 6:20 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., Get Fit of Madison will present Zumba and the Madison Academy Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. The Madison Academy Pop Group will also perform at 7:30 p.m.
The girls at Becky's Dance Steps Studio will wow the crowd at 8 p.m., with a performance by the Madison Boys Choir following at 8:45 p.m.
At 9 p.m., the luminaria ceremony, a special candlelight ceremony that takes place after dark in order to remember loved ones lost to cancer, support those who have cancer and honor those who have fought cancer, will begin.
Musical soloist Rachel Sullivan will perform at 10 p.m. and the mission moment will be presented at 10:30 p.m. At 11 p.m., sports hour will begin.
At the end of the night, when the clock strikes midnight, the Relay For Life event will conclude with the closing ceremony, which celebrates everything accomplished at the Relay For Life event.
