A local Pinetta resident was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Friday, April 11 in Unadilla, Ga. while attending the Angel City Motorcycle Rally.
According to a Georgia State Patrol report, Marci Blair Scanlan was riding as a passenger on the back of a Harley Davidson Softail, being driven by Theron Legrand Lankford, of Douglas, Ga. They were traveling down a path designated for motorcycles at the event. The motorcycle veered to the left and struck a display trailer with another motorcycle on it.
It was noted in the Georgia State Patrol report that Lankford had stated his riding glove became wedged in the throttle causing the throttle to stick and for him to lose control of the motorcycle.
Lankford was transported by Dooly County E.M.S. to Crisp Regional Medical Center for non-incapacitating head injuries. Georgia State Patrol reported that Lankford had a blood alcohol content of 0.03. (Georgia’s legal limit is shown to be 0.08.)
Scanlan was transported by Meda-Vac to Macon Medical Center for incapacitating head injuries and remains in ICU.
A bank account for Marci Scanlan has been set up at Madison County Community Bank for donations to help Scanlan during her recovery. There will a dinner at the Courthouse lawn on Friday, May 2. All donations will go towards Marci Scanlan’s recovery. There are several other raffles and fundraisers being organized, at this time.
