A Madison Police Department officer was dispatched to Pineland Missionary Baptist Church in reference to a physical altercation. In the report, the victim stated that Samuel McGhee, 81, of Madison was counting money at the church that he was not authorized to touch and the victim, a 65-year-old woman, told him he was at the wrong table and attempted to move the money. McGhee shoved her arm with his hand and she pushed his hand off of her arm and told him to move from the table. At this time, McGhee struck her in the left eye and left side of her face with a clenched fist. The victim was transported to the Madison County Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. In McGhee’s statement he said that the victim approached him when he was dealing with money and asked what he was doing. He stated that she grabbed his hand and he pulled away. As he tried to pull his hand away a second time, the victim hit him on his head. At that time, McGhee stated that he hit back. The officers spoke with five witnesses who corroborated the victim’s statement. McGhee was charged with simple battery and transported to the Madison County Jail.
