The 55 Plus Club will meet April 15, the third Wednesday in April, because of Holy Week. Please note the change of date on your calendars. The 55 Plus Club will meet at the United Methodist Cooperative Community Center at noon for a luncheon of salads, sandwiches, desserts and tea. The UMCM Community Center is located about 5 miles north of Madison on Hwy. 145.

The combined bands of Madison County High School present Kaleidoscope 2009. The Florida DEP’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host a beginning watercolor workshop on Saturday, April 18, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. This watercolor workshop is designed for the beginner through the intermediate level weekend artist and to the artist working in another medium who would like to try working in watercolor. The workshop is $35 and includes park admission, all supplies and one painting matted and ready to frame. The course includes personal instruction and is limited to six people. Madison First Baptist Church will host an open house in the 1898 sanctuary on the corner of W Pinckney St. and Orange Ave. The open house is in conjunction with the Four Freedoms Festival and will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. Everyone is invited to come visit this beautiful historic building.

The Florida DEP’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host a beginning pottery workshop focusing on basic hand building techniques Saturdays, April 4–25, from 9 a.m. to noon. Craft square demonstrator Diane Hornby will teach participants basic hand building techniques such as wedging, how to build a pinch pot, an assembled box, a critter, an object of student’s choice and how to embellish each vessel. The cost of the four week session is $85 and includes four pounds of clay, glazes for four vessels, a student packet of tools and park admission. The workshop is limited to seven students. “Madison County Extension Service will be conducting a food preservation workshop starting at 6 p.m. at the Extension office. Learn about the USDA recommended practices for canning and freezing your garden produce. Each participant will receive a food preservation manual and be eligible for door prizes. Monster trucks are coming to North Florida Fairgrounds in Tallahassee; the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals, including Ghost Ryd”er, Hot Tamale and Equalizer, will be racing in side-by-side mud drags and a Tuff Truck Challenge for the daredevils. Shows will be held Friday, April 24, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 25, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $20 and kid tickets are $10. First Saturday of Each Month

The Florida DEP’s Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host a digital photography workshop on Mondays, May 4 and June 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Taught by professional photographer Don Williams, the workshops will teach participants how to create a photographic composition, the shooting effects of color and black and white images, flash usage, depth of field, linear perspective in two dimensional photography and exposure priorities and settings. Computer programming combined with hands-on outdoor photography sessions will enhance student photography skills. Workshop fees are $25 per workshop, including park admission. Participants should bring a film or digital camera. No computers are needed for this workshop.
