Cowboys Complete Perfect Season
?By Michael Curtis

The Cowboys ended a beautiful undefeated regular season on Friday night with a 62-11 victory against the Wakulla War Eagles. Adding to the beauty was Homecoming Queen Jessie Hall and the Homecoming Court of Madison County High School who shined brightly through an otherwise overcast evening.
Yardage started piling up for the Cowboys as soon as they got the ball. In fact, the punt return before the first Cowboy possession would have been an eighty-yard touchdown for Chris Thompson, but it was called back for holding. Then, as if a director shouted, “Take Two!” the first play from scrimmage ended identically, except Corey Akins was carrying the ball.
As no surprise to Cowboy fans, Thompson got back into the action just minutes later with a passing reception for one touchdown and then another on the ground before the first quarter ended. Thompson added to his rushing showcase by recording another long touchdown run from scrimmage early in the second, followed by teammate Xavier Brown, who added two of his own. And, not to be left out of the party, MarterRius McDaniel chalked up a game-leading 147 rushing yards, with one touchdown of his own, leaving the Cowboys Please See Cowboys, Page 8A riding into halftime with a huge lead and 49-0 glowing brightly on the scoreboard.
The Cowboys rushing dominance doesn’t just come from the backfield however. The offensive line continues to explode off the snap, leading to lineman Tyrie Florence being named Offensive Player of the Week. The Cowboy defense, always extremely selfish with the ground, gave up only 12 yards all night, as Defensive Coordinator Rod Williams kept his defense loose and hot and right on the ball. Jermaine Hart was named Defensive Player of the Game, grabbing an interception and returning it for a touchdown.
During halftime, all in attendance were treated to the Voice of the Cowboys, John Bullard, introducing the Homecoming Queen and Court along with their escorts. Like the Coronation Ceremony at Van H. Priest Auditorium the night before, there were nothing but smiles and tears throughout the stands and on the field.
The third quarter began with the announcement that Jacobbi McDaniel and Alexis Peterson were named Mr. and Miss Madison County High School. Then the Cowboys immediately reminded Wakulla why McDaniel and his teammates are “Mr. State Champions” and are well on their way to a repeat.
Madison County’s undefeated season is the first for Frankie Carroll but considering the reputation he is building, it won’t be the last for him or the maroon and silver. Add to that equation that the Cowboys racked up 500 yards against Wakulla, including seven touchdowns on the ground in only 25 carries, bringing their season team rushing average to 10 yards per carry, should provide the fuel the Madison engine will need for a 2A Championship repeat.
“The players executed extremely well tonight and I have to thank all the coaches for doing a great job. The rushing was strong again and the defense was strong too. We’re proud to bring Madison County an undefeated season and we are going to prepare hard for Marianna. We really appreciate all the support we received this year and hope everybody will come out and cheer for these guys during the playoffs,” Carroll stated.
Of course, for the Cowboys it will be one game at a time through the playoffs beginning Friday night against Marianna at Boot Hill. Everyone is urged to come out and bring a friend. Let’s encourage Coach Carroll and his fine staff and all the players wherever we can and as often as we can. GO COWBOYS!
