After Madison County Memorial Hospital moved to its new location on 224 NW Crane Avenue on Aug. 1, 2014, the old hospital was sold to the Madison County School Board. Since the school board purchased the property, the facility had not been active.
However, as time went on, there was talk of activity in the old hospital and many members of the public began to wonder just exactly what was going on.
After further investigation, Dr. Adolfo Dulay of Madison Family Clinic revealed that the old hospital is going to become an assisted living facility. In October of 2015, Dulay bought the building from the school board.
According to Dulay, the hospital is ready to be used as a facility, as Community Development Director Chuck Hitchcock, the city's planning agency and North Central Florida Regional Planning Council have ensured that the hospital is zoned correctly and City Fire Inspector Juan Williams approved the maximum capacity of 45 patients.
“I think [the facility] will be beneficial for Madison,” said Dulay. “It will be very nice for the community.”
Greene Publishing, Inc. attempted to get in touch with the people in charge of operations several times but received no response.
As of now, the facility is awaiting approval for a license of business from the Agency of Healthcare. Stay tuned for more updates.
