Madison: Walteria Wooten Schnitker, of Madison, died January 15, 2014, two days short of her 86th birthday. She was born in Madison on January 17, 1928, to James Berner Wooten and Susan Caroline Beggs Wooten. Walteria was descended from numerous pioneer families of Brooks, Thomas, and Lowndes Counties in Georgia, and Madison County, Florida. She was a 1946 graduate of Madison High School and attended Stetson University. She was married to Claymore “Boogie” Schnitker in 1948, and had been married for 60 years at the time of his death. She was a member of the Garden Club, Women’s Club, and Madison Country Club. She was also a member of Madison First Baptist Church for over 75 years. Walteria was an avid bridge and bingo player, but her first love was her family. She is survived by her two sons: Clay Schnitker and wife Kay of Madison, and Mark Schnitker and wife Cil of Panama City Beach. She also leaves three grandchildren who dearly loved their Nanny: Jennie Schnitker of Jacksonville, Evan Schnitker of Atlanta, and Matthew Schnitker of Pensacola. Walteria was preceded in death by her husband Boogie, brothers Joe and Bink Wooten, and grandson Benjamin Schnitker. Funeral services were held at 11:00 Saturday, January 18, in the Beggs Madison Chapel, with visitation from 10 to 11 before the service. Burial followed in Oakridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 1898 Sanctuary Fund of Madison First Baptist Church, PO Box 307, Madison, Florida, 32341.
