Rev. James William Browning, Sr., went to be with the Lord on November 1. He was born January 31, 1936 in Madison to the late Edwin B. and Louise Z. Browning.
He is survived by Pat, his wife of 54 years; daughter, Beth; son, Jim; granddaughter, Leanne, all of Bradenton; and grandson, Doyle, of Tallahassee. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Brown (Arden); a brother, The Honorable Edwin B. Browning, Jr. (Faye), all of Madison; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Marlyn and Gerard Chutz.
James was a graduate of Florida State University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored Orville Baptist Church (Kentucky), while a seminary student. Florida pastorates include Indian Springs Baptist Church (Miccosukee), First Baptist Church of Archer, Lemon Heights Baptist Church (Palatka) and Tenth Street Baptist Church, now Suncoast Baptist Church (Palmetto). He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Bradenton, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Burial will be private. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Bradenton, on Saturday, November 8, at 2:30 p.m., preceded by visitation at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Mission Funds of First Baptist Church Bradenton, 1301 Manatee Ave. W, Bradenton, Fl., 34205. Griffith-Cline downtown is in charge of arrangements.
