Barbara Ann Farmer Jones, 69, passed away in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pineland Missionary Baptist Church, Madison, with burial in Texas Hill Cemetery, Monticello. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Nu Omega Omega Chapter will conduct Ivy Beyond the Wall Rites at 4 p.m. Friday, with wake services following from 5-7 p.m. at Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Monticello. TILLMAN OF MONTICELLO 850-997-5553 is serving the family. A Monticello native, Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Howard Academy High School. She later graduated from the then Suwannee River Junior College (AS degree) and Florida A&M University (Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees). She worked as a classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator in the Madison County School District for 33 years before retiring. She was cited as Madison County’s Teacher of the Year three times and was a finalist once for the state’s Teacher of the Year. Her devotion to students transcended the school and included all facets of their lives. She was a mother to countless young men and women and retained those relationships far after graduation. Forever treasuring her love and memory are her devoted son, Terrance (Katrina) Jones and their children, Shania and Sage; aunt, Mrs. Addie Hamm Griffin; her former husband and friend, Jimmy Jones; and numerous close relatives and loving friends. Her parents, Allen and Ruby Hamm Farmer, predeceased Barbara.
