Mr. Jarmon Carlie Williams, age 79, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, Madison, Fl. Burial followed in Corinth Cemetery, Lee. The family received friends at Beggs Chapel on Saturday, July 5, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Williams was born in Suwannee County on January 18, 1929, the son of the late Henry Herman Williams and Osie Sullivan Williams. He had lived in Hamilton County since 1960, moving there from Live Oak, Fl. He was a barber and owner of City Barber Shop in Live Oak. He was a poultry farmer and a member of the Corinth Primitive Baptist Church, Lee. He was a US Army Veteran and served during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Alethia Horne Williams of Jasper, a son, Richard C. Williams and wife Juana of Jasper; four daughters, Serena Creech and husband Gerald of Jasper, Gail Allen and husband Randy of High Springs, Becky Maupin of Arlington, Tennessee and Marcia Daniels and husband Jack of Tallahassee; one brother: Enoch Williams of Lee; four sisters, Elvira Brown of Lee, Osie Mae O’Steen of Mayo, Ila Bell Bell and husband James of Lee, Carolyn Moore and husband Tom of Lee. He had 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. |
Cora Frances Edmonston
Cora Frances ("Sister Cora") Edmonston died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Tallahassee.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at Towne East Baptist in Tallahassee. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m., at Beggs Funeral Home on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Towne East Baptist Church, 3522 Richview Road, Tallahassee, FL, or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
Born in Cookeville, Tennessee on July 2,1929, Cora was the daughter of James Morgan and Ruby Maddle. She married James ("Bill") Edmonston in 1944 and they lived throughout Florida. The Edmonstons were active in their service to me Lord and together they ministered in Haines City, FL before moving to Greenville Baptist Church. Bill was later called back to Central Florida to assume his role as pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Haines City (now Landmark Baptist).
In 1970, the Edmonstons moved to Tallahassee where Cora served as a devoted wife and mother as Bill served as pastor at Orange Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. Her tireless support of the church and devotion to her husband made possible a move to the eastside of town in the mid 70's, and the church now stands as Towne East Baptist. Cora remained a member of Towne East until her death.
Cora loved children and was always active in the choir, Sunday School, VBS, and much more. She loved her family and Florida State football. In addition to her many roles in the church, she was also the bookkeeper at Capital City Printing for a number of years. Her beloved husband preceded her in death in August 1989. Her oldest son, Jeny Lloyd Edmonston, Sr., preceded her in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Davis (husband Sonny), of Greenville; and three sons, Danny Edmonston (wife Betty) of Greenville, Jeff Edmonston (wife Renee) of Jessup, GA, and Jerry Edmonston. Jr. (wife Sherri) of Tallahassee; and 11 loving Grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cora greeted each day with a smile and her loving spirit will be missed by all.

| Roderick K. Shaw
Roderick K Shaw, Jr, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa July 6,2008.
A native of Quincy, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1946, and of Davidson College, class of 1951, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Rod first met his wife of 53 years, Floride, at an Honor Society luncheon. Rod and Flo were married in Tallahassee in 1951 after he graduated from Davidson. Subsequent to his graduation he and Flo moved to Gainesville where he attended the University of Florida College of Law. His law school education was interrupted by service in the Korean War. Flo's cheerful newsy letters boosted his morale during his service on the front lines in Korea. During his service in the Army he fought in battle of Triangle Hill (Korea) during mid and late October 1952. As the commander of I company, he led a company-sized diversionary raid on the foothill of Hill 1066 on 1 November 1952. He later served in battalion headquarters as advisor for the battalion commander S-1, 3rd. Bn. 32nd. Inf. Regiment during winter and spring 1952-53. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Korea and concluded his service as the rank of Army Captain, and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1958.
He and Flo moved to Tampa in 1955 following his graduation from law school at the University of Florida. Rod practiced Law with the firm of Allen, Dell, Frank, and Trinkle in Tampa. He primarily worked as a corporate lawyer representing the Florida Citrus industry. A notable product of his corporate work was lobbying the Food and Drug Administration to require food labels on all Orange Juice products to enable consumers to distinguish 100% Orange juice from 10% orange drink imitations. Modem day food labels listing the ingredients of food products in grocery stores are a direct result of his legal practice. Following his success with food labels, his label model was mandated industry wide and is now on all food labels.
maintained a lifelong passion for Architecture and furniture. He showed his hobby via his woodcarving of Georgian era chairs and his consultation on the design of the new chancel of Palma Ceia Presbyterian church. He was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and Tampa Yacht and Country club.
He is survived by his daughter Floride (Reedi) Massey and son-in-law Steve Massey of Tallahassee, son Roderick Shaw and daughter-in-law Kathleen Shaw of Madison, grandson Roderick, granddaughter, Carolyn Floride Shaw, his sister Mary McMillan of Quincy, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded by his wife Floride Wilkinson Shaw and his parents Roderick K Shaw, Sr. and Elizabeth (Dibby) Shaw of Quincy.
Funeral Services will be scheduled in Tampa at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. Graveside service in Quincy, Florida will be held at the "Old Western" cemetery. Visitation in Quincy will be after the graveside service.

Guynn, Louise Bunting
Louise Guynn form High Springs, FL departed this life on July 5, 2008 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was 92 years old and will always be remembered for her zest for life. She passed away peacefully with her daughter, Elise, at her side.
She was born in Madison, FL to Charles and Lottie Bunting and was the sole survivor of her family of nine siblings.
Louise was a woman of faith and extremely devoted to her family.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in High Springs, a member of the Sanata Fe Chapter #105 Order of the Eastern Star where she served in many capacities including Worthy Matron. Other service organizations that she proudly participated in were Daughters of the American Revolution and Children's Home Society.
She was survived by her four children, Gail Guynn of Fort Lauderdale, Sue Cowden of Fort White, C.G. (Tony) Guynn of Atlanta, GA and Elise Hitchcock of Gainesville. She had five grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Ellis Guynn and her Mother, Lottie Bunting, her Father, Charles Bunting and her nine siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in High Springs on Saturday July 12,2008 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Morris Beck officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by Santa Fe Chapter #105 Order of the Eastern Star. Memorial Service will be held at Haven Hospice Chapel on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs from 7 p.m.- 8 p.m.

| Cornelia Louisa Mires Tomlinson
Cornelia Louisa Mires Tomlinson was born in Volusia County on August 9, 1918, and died July 15, 2008.
A memorial service for Cornelia Louisa Mires Tomlinson will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 18, at First United Methodist Church of Thomasville, Ga. A private graveside service will be held. Dr. Weyman Cleveland will officiate.
Mrs. Tomlinson, called Corrie by her family and friends, died on Tuesday, July 15th. She was born on August 9, 1918 in Volusia County, the second daughter of John Jefferson and Frances Martin Mires. She grew up in Deland, where she graduated from Deland High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Stetson University in Deland, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, the Stetson Glee Club and Stetson University symphony orchestra. It was at Stetson that she met her future husband, Harry Ethridge Tomlinson, of Madison. They were married on October 12, 1940. Soon thereafter, they moved to Bar M. Ranch in southeast Thomas County where they resided until moving to Thomasville, Ga., in 1960. Mrs. Tomlinson was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Thomasville, Ga., for over 50 years and served as a charter member of the Altar Guild, a long-time member of the choir, a member of the United Methodist Women, the Sue McTier Sunday School Class, the Administrative Board, a circle leader and a Trustee. She was a member of Thomasville Entertainment Foundation, The Cultural Center, Thomasville Landmarks, Thomas County Historical Society, Archbold Hospital volunteer and an early member of Thomasville Garden Club, Inc. She was an avid reader, loved flower arranging and sewing for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry Ethridge Tomlinson; their five children: sons, Harry Mires Tomlinson and wife Mary, of Thomasville, Ga. and Carl Martin Tomlinson of Tallahassee. Daughters; Ashley Tomlinson Jones of Thomasville, Leisa Tomlinson Zoller and husband Jeffrey, of Winchester, Virginia and Dorian Tomlinson Blackmon and husband John, of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Harry Mires Tomlinson, Jr. and wife Shannon of Jupiter, Florida, Barbara Cornell Tomlinson of Tallahassee, Griffin Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Laura Zoller Rieck and husband J.T. of Houston, Texas, Kari Zoller of Winchester, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Kate, Brenna and Kara Tomlinson, Jupiter, Bryce Cornell Rieck, Houston, Texas; four step grandchildren, Scott Reese, Tallahassee, Beverly Reese Gray and husband Arthur, Hoboken, New Jersey, Elizabeth Blackmon Birmingham, Alabama, John Blackmon II, Thomasville, Ga.; two step great grandchildren, Reagan and Emily Blackmon, Thomasville, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. J. Wesley Fly, Orlando, Mrs. Neil MacMillan, Delray Beach, Mrs. Jocelyn Mires Wimer Deland, and many nieces and nephews.
