A Taylor County Grand Jury returned a no true bill in the death of Travis Cruce, 22 on Friday, Oct. 2. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of FDLE, investigated the case. Taylor County Sheriff’s deputies found Cruce on CC Grade Road in Perry with two gunshot wounds on Aug. 8. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Investigators interviewed witnesses to the shooting and learned Cruce was attempting to confront a group of males who were traveling in a vehicle on CC Grade Road through an area he thought was leased hunting club property. Cruce used his vehicle to follow the group and discharged his firearm while following the vehicle.
Cruce eventually passed the vehicle and stopped at an angle in the roadway, partially blocking the roadway. Cruce exited his vehicle with a firearm in his hand and began to approach the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, Justin Cox, 22, exited his vehicle with his firearm and fired at Cruce, fatally injuring Cruce. At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was provided to the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. This case was presented to the Taylor County Grand Jury on October 2 and the Grand Jury returned a no true bill, failing to indict Cox.
