NFCC English Instructor Rose Knox Shares Poetry With Lee Elementary School 1st Graders

Submitted By NFCC Office Of College Advancement Lee Elementary School teacher Susan Maultsby recently invited North Florida Community College English instructor Rose Knox, center wearing her “Cat in the Hat” attire, to read and recite poetry for her 1st grade class. Some of the poems Knox shared with the children included “Wicked Thoughts” by Judith Viorst, “The Creation” by James Weldon Johnson and “Sick and One Inch Tall” by Shel Silverstein, among others. To engage the young students, Knox brought props and acted out the poems. “The children even heard me play my harmonica, and we did some choral singing together,” said Knox. “After the ‘show’ Mrs. Maultsby let me hear her students read from their books in choral fashion. It was a fun day.”
