A Greenville man was arrested in the middle of May after an odor of marijuana led to the discovery of the substance, as well as cocaine.
In a report by Cpl. E. Gilbert of the Madison Police Department (MPD), Ptl. T. Dowdy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for running a stop sign on Friday, May 15, at approximately 10:30 p.m. While Cpl. Gilbert was sitting on W Base Street utilizing a stationary radar, Ptl. Dowdy passed Cpl. Gilbert, with the suspect vehicle in front of him, clocking the vehicle running at 72 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Both vehicles came to a stop just outside of the city limits. While Ptl. Dowdy made contact with the driver, who was identified as Vincenta Vidal Mitchell, 46, Cpl. Gilbert walked up to the passenger side of Mitchell's vehicle. During the course of the investigation, Cpl. Gilbert noticed a smell of "green marijuana," or unsmoked marijuana, as Mitchell rolled down the back passenger side window. Cpl. Gilbert inquired to how much marijuana was inside the vehicle. Mitchell stated that he had someone riding with him earlier in the night, who smoked marijuana. "I then explained that the smell I was smelling was green marijuana and not smoked marijuana,"
