Monticello man dies in Madison County crash

Father’s Day ended tragically for one Jefferson County man during the course of a fatal accident.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports, Emmery Jacoby Scurry, 44, of Monticello, was driving east on US Highway 90, just before NW Honey Lake Road on Sunday, June 19. Scurry was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup.

For unknown reasons, he traveled across the westbound lane, onto the north shoulder and into the tree line at approximately 12 p.m. The front driver’s side of the vehicle hit a large tree and came to a final rest facing east.

Scurry was pronounced dead by Madison County EMTs on scene. He was wearing his seatbelt. FHP has not yet determined if the case was alcohol-related as all traffic fatalities undergo a lengthy and thorough investigation process.

The following agencies provided assistance on scene: Florida Highway Patrol, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison Fire Rescue, Greenville Fire Department and New Home Fire Department.
