Midway Church of God held its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, as over 80 people came dressed in costumes, most of them as cowboys and cowgirls, and enjoyed fun, games, hobo stew and chili, and hayrides and train rides. Elvoye and Betty Thomas, as always, prepared a scrumptious meal of stew and chili, assisted by Larry and Myrtice Tompkins, Carol Brooks and Julian Penny. Margie and James Phillips, assisted by their children and grandchildren, as well as other church members, organized the fun and games. Games included lassoing cows, a Slim Jim walk, bobbing for apples on a string and horseshoes. Lyndon Fortner helped instruct those in attendance in shelling corn.
Two trucks pulled hay trailers as those riding went to a nearby petting zoo to see the animals. The winners of the costume contest were announced during the meal. They were: Adult category: Andy Schiltz (winner) and Abbie Bembry (runner-up). Teen Category: Rebecca Chandler (winner) and Georgia and Emmie Phillips (tied for runner-up). Toddler/baby categry: Skyler Chandler. All the people in costume received coupons from Wendy’s for 10 Frosties for one dollar. The night came to a close as children went from car to car and participated in trunk and treat, getting goodies from the adults.
