A wreck took place early morning on Wednesday, March 30 that resulted with the driver being entrapped in his vehicle for a number of hours before his eventual rescue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, Christopher Sapp, 17, of Lee, was driving south on SR 255 at the estimated time of 12 a.m. on March 30 when his vehicle ran off the side of the road. Sapp then overcorrected the steering of his 2000 Chevy Silverado causing the vehicle to travel across the highway onto the east shoulder of the road.
Sapp’s vehicle then collided with a tree, rotated off the tree, and then crashed through a fence, where it came to a final rest.
While the wreck took place around midnight, Sapp and his truck were not discovered until approximately 7 a.m., later that morning by a passing motorist, who called Madison County dispatch to alert them of the wreck.
Madison Fire Rescue, Lee Volunteer Fire Department, Madison EMS, Madison County Sheriff's Department and Florida Highway Patrol all responded to the call and discovered that Sapp was still in his vehicle.
The truck was a total loss and Sapp was transported to South Georgia Medical Center with a broken pelvis, two punctured lungs and multiple broken ribs. with a broken pelvis.
According to FHP, Sapp was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck and is charged with that offense as well as failure to maintain his lane of travel.
