Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Thursday, Oct. 15, Deputy Brandon Goldman was working traffic enforcement on Interstate 10. At 9:30 a.m., Deputy Goldman stopped a white Ford Explorer after observing the driver, identified as Joshua Jacob Rivera, 28, of Orlando commit two traffic violations.
While taking enforcement actions, Deputy Goldman detected indicators of possible criminal activity. Deputy Goldman conducted a driver’s license and warrant check through MCSO Communications Center and found that Rivera had active arrest warrants from Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for grand theft from persons 65 years of age or older and criminal use of personal identification information of a person 60 years of age.
During a probable cause search, Deputy Goldman discovered that Rivera and his passenger, Amilcar Cordova II, 28, of Orlando were transporting a large quantity of brand new electronics and clothing. The investigation showed that these items were obtained by fraudulent means and seized as evidence. More than 81 Apple iPads, six gaming systems, three Apple iPhones and numerous prepaid debit and gift cards along with fraudulent identification and credit cards were part of the items recovered totaling more than $65,000. Rivera and Cordova were arrested without further incident.
Rivera was charged with fraudulent use of personal ID information, possession of counterfeit credit card with intent to defraud and out of county warrants. Cordova was charged with principle and possession of counterfeit credit card with intent to defraud.
