According to Major David Harper with the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), there is a social media post suggesting that the Madison County Central School is or has been on lockdown today, due to a threat of an active shooter or the possibility of an active shooter. This is false information.
There is no active confirmable threat nor has there been a credible threat received toward any Madison County School. It is the belief of MCSO that this rumor originated from a social media posting by a juvenile in South Carolina and has been shared multiple times across social media. In response, the MCSO assigned multiple deputies and investigators to this matter in effort to cease the sharing of this particular posting by any of our Madison County students to prevent and undue panic.
MCSO would like to reassure citizens that the Madison County Central School is not on lockdown nor has it been on lockdown. MCSO have been informed that since the recent tragedy in Parkland, Fl., the school has opted to keep the front doors locked as an extra security measure, meaning parents and visitors have to be allowed into the building. Major David Harper and MCSO thanks you for your attention to this matter.
