Twenty-four hospitals from 15 states, in the U.S, applied for the Small Rural Hospital Transition (SRHT) project, and of the hospitals that put their name into the hat, only eight will be the recipients of the technical assistance, support and opportunities that Small Rural Hospital Transition (SRHT) offers to provide. Madison County’s Memorial Hospital was selected as one of the few that were accepted. Not only is MCMH one of the eight chosen hospitals in the nation, they are also the one hospital in the state of Florida that was chosen for this program. The eight top ranking hospitals chosen to take part in this project were judged based on the program eligibility requirements, their organizational readiness, the leadership and commitment displayed in order to implement the consulted recommendations for higher performance and strategies that assist from transitions from healthcare’s current volume-based system to the newly emerging value-based system for the caring of patients and payment abilities. The chosen hospitals were selected from lower income regions of the United States, so that the impact on the community would be better felt. “We are very fortunate to have been awarded this opportunity to have experienced consultants provide training, resources, recommendations and on site interviews with our hospital staff and Board of Directors that will identify performance-improvement opportunities that result in increased financial stability” said CEO of Madison County Memorial Hospital, Tammy Stevens. SRHT is supported by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) through a contract to Rural Health Innovations (RHI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Rural Health Resource Center.
