Michael Scott Martin, who was recently arrested for a burglary in Lee and was released on bond, was arrested after another burglary on Thursday, Jan. 4, in Cherry Lake.
Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reports that on Thursday, Jan. 4, at approximately 2:29 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence located on Garden Road, in Cherry Lake, in response to Michael Scott Martin, 25, of Madison, trespassing onto a property.
Deputies had knowledge that Martin had previously received a trespass warning for this residence. Upon arrival, Martin was no longer present at the residence. The complainant informed deputies that Martin had entered the residence without permission and stolen a set of keys and a cell phone that belonged to the victim’s daughter, before fleeing the residence on foot.
Deputies began to search the area and was able to locate the keys on the edge of the road. A short time later, deputies received information that Martin was spotted walking out from behind another residence, a short distance away. Deputy Ben Pike responded to that location and was able to apprehend Martin without incident. Martin stated that he threw the cell phone somewhere on Garden Road. Martin was arrested and charged with burglary to an occupied dwelling, theft (deprive person of property/benefit), trespass (occupied structure) and stalking.
At the time of this arrest, Martin was out of jail on a $6,000 bond resulting from his arrest on Saturday, Dec. 16, on charges of burglary while armed, criminal conspiracy, grand theft, possession of burglary tools, trespass while armed and loitering in Lee.
