Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday, August 8, at 2:50 p.m., investigators of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Lake Street and Cotton Gin Street in Madison for committing a traffic violation. While taking enforcement actions investigators deployed canine “Arko” to conduct a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle. Canine “Arko” gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotic odor.
Investigators instructed the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle in order to conduct a probable cause search of their persons and the vehicle. While searching the passenger, identified as Dwayne Boatman, investigators located three small plastic bags containing marijuana concealed in Boatman’s left front pants pocket.
Boatman was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail. He was charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
