Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:22 p.m. a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct traffic stop on a Silver four-door sedan for committing a traffic violation at the intersection of US 90 and 221 South in Greenville.  The vehicle quickly accelerated and began to actively flee from the deputy. The driver was identified as Fredrick Leon Dawson from Tallahassee. A pursuit was initiated only lasting four minutes and covering about four miles when the driver of the fleeing vehicle, bailed out and ran on foot in front of H & R Grocery located on Grand St. The deputy continued the chase on foot and apprehended Dawson a short time later.
Dawson stated he fled because his drivers license was suspended. During a search of the vehicle Dawson was driving, deputies discovered a small plastic bag containing cocaine on the front floor of the vehicle along with a ledger describing cocaine sales. Dawson was transported to the Madison County Jail without further incident.
Dawson was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an open container of alcohol, resisting, obstructing or opposing an officer without violence and driving while license is suspended or revoked with knowledge.
