Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Monday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Madison County EMS personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a male subject slumped over the steering wheel of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the side of US Hwy 90 west.
EMS arrived and found the driver was initially unresponsive and the truck engine running. EMS was able to wake the driver who against instructions attempted to drive away but was disoriented and unable to move the semi-truck. EMS was able to get the driver, later identified as Bobby Eugene Melton, 45, of Moultrie, Ga. to exit the truck.
Upon exiting the truck, Melton attempted to throw a red plastic container. EMS retrieved the plastic container and turned it over to the deputy upon his arrival. When asked by the deputy, Melton stated that the plastic container contained Methamphetamine. EMS transported Melton to the Madison County Hospital, where it was determined that he was under the influence of several illegal narcotics. Deputies placed Melton under arrest and transported him to the Madison County Jail. The tractor-trailer was impounded.
Melton was charged with possession of Methamphetamine and driving under the influence of drugs.
