Finally, after a year and a half, the new bridge at the Georgia-Florida state line that crosses into Valdosta is finally finished! Have you had a chance to cross the bridge lately? If you have, you've probably been greeted by a sign that says “Brooks County” as you go onto the bridge, and when exiting the bridge, there is also a sign that says “Lowndes County.” While one might think this is an error, which is not the case; after further investigation, it has been found that the bridge actually belongs to Brooks County. According to Scott Chambers, district construction engineer who worked on the bridge, looking at the Georgia state map, it is clear there is a small portion of Brooks County between Madison County and Lowndes County. Because the bridge is over this portion of land (the Withlacoochee River) technically, the bridge is Brooks County property.
Lowndes County or Brooks County?
