Hope Smith, a senior at Madison County High School signed to play softball at Auburn University in Alabama on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Her family, friends, past and present softball coaches, that have helped her, surrounded her as she signed the papers.
Prior to her signing, Smith made a speech to thank everyone that has helped her get to this point in her life. She thanked her coaches, friends, teammates and her family.
Smith received the offer to play for Auburn University in January of this year, prior to her finishing her junior year of school and softball season. When she starts at Auburn in August of 2015, she will be studying exercise science to become a physical therapist.
Her favorite part of softball is the rush she gets from “simply throwing a girl out in defense or getting a single.”
“The game is designed for me to fail, so succeeding is that much more important,” said Smith.
