Letter To The Editor: Ref Emerald Greene Column Jan 15, 2014

I would like to commend Ms. Greene for her column on the movie “Lone Survivor.” I deeply concur with her opinion of the movie and our military personnel. As a veteran, I wish to thank her for her appreciation of those who serve this country. You are not alone, Emerald. We are just too polite and courteous to vent the rage we are feeling when disparaging comments are made about the courageous people who protect us. But, I think that time is coming to an end. One cannot appreciate the level of disrespect opined by CNN reporter Jake Tapper until you see this movie or read the book. He obviously has no idea of what it means to sacrifice for a greater cause or for your country. If I may offer the following advice before seeing this movie… Read the book “Lone Survivor”. The book has much more detail than the movie and it will give you a better understanding of Petty Officer Luttrell and what it takes to be a Navy SEAL. Bring a box of Kleenex. God bless the United States of America, her military and all the men and women who put on a uniform and defend her from harm. (I would also like to mention that Marcus Luttrell wrote a follow up book to “Lone Survivor” titled “Service: A Navy SEAL at War.” That book chronicles his service after the mission in Afghanistan, his recuperation and how he returns to the battlefield in Ramadi, Iraq. It is also a profoundly moving tribute to the warrior brotherhood and why they are willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of family, nation and freedom. Something most mainstream media commentators will never understand.) Jim Billberry Past Master Hiram Lodge No. 5 Free and Accepted Masons Monticello, FL
