Lee Town Councilwoman, Shirley Yeager passed away on Jan. 23, leaving both an empty council seat, as well as an empty spot in the soul of the small town of Lee.
Yeager took oath August of 2002 and has served faithfully since then as both council member for Group Three as well as the Council President, after being elected to the position in the beginning of 2015.
“Lee has lost a very valuable asset,” said Lee Town Manager John Anderson, before continuing to say that Yeager was a person who was always there to cheerfully do whatever it took to get things done. “She put in so much work, way above and beyond the duties of a council member.”
Mentioning his early years as Town Manager, Anderson mentioned that Yeager spent countless moments lending her expertise and aid in helping get him on his feet and that her wisdom would be sorely missed.
“I don’t know what would happen without people like her,” said Anderson.
Yeager is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill Yeager; children, Raymond (Michele) Yeager and Benjamin (Sonya) Yeager; three siblings: Billy (Faye) Jackson, Ramona (Conny) Curl and Andy (Cheryl Ann) Jackson; and three grandchildren: Victoria, Elizabeth and Mitchell Yeager.
She worked with MCEAU Credit Union as a manager for many years. She also worked for Buddy Wyche as a secretary. Aside from her civic roles in the community, Yeager enjoyed reading, gardening and working in her yard.
