Dr. Karen Pickles, who completed her doctoral thesis just a few months ago, earning the title of “Doctor,” now has another distinction to add to her name – that of Certified Board Member.
The Florida School Boards Association announced that Pickles had earned the honor by completing a minimum of 96 hours of training in 12 areas concerning the governance roles and responsibilities of school board members. The announcement was made at the FSBA’s Annual Summer Conference in Tampa.
The Certified Board Member Program is a voluntary training program for school board members throughout Florida. The program is offered through the FSBA, providing leadership training in areas such as student learning, school finance, legislative processes, policymaking, strategic planning, school law, community involvement, advocacy for public education, diversity, employee relations, and current trends/issues.
When Pickles spoke of the Certified Board Member training program at the last Madison County School Board meeting, she praised the training program and said she hoped that in the very near future all of the Madison County School Board Members would take advantage of the program.
